Imagine what America would have done, had the Alaskan pipeline not been constructed:
Not only has Prudhoe Bay provided America with 20 billion barrels of highly-refinable domestic crude, the 1974-1977 project created some 200,000, high-paying jobs; at a time when the USA was clenched in the jaws of searing, OPEC-induced recession; when gasoline more than doubled in price - hovering around 69 cents per gallon.
After the pipeline opened in 1977, gas prices plunged to .49 gallon; and seemingly overnight, the American economy recovered with an incredible upward bouce; as car sales and consumer confidence came back with a pent-up fury- riding on a wave of low energy prices.
Interestingly, BEFORE the Alaskan Pipeline became reality, most "experts" claimed that drilling in the Prudhoe Bay region would not even produce the nearly 450 million total barrels required to make the project profitable.
Then environmentalists tried every possible angle to scuttle the project - claiming all the caribou herds would be decimated; that they would be unable to "birth their calves."
Since then we know the real story: The Alaskan pipeline has kept US gasoline prices lower than they would have been for 35 years -making that state the wealthiest (per capita) of all the entire fifty.
Obviously, one of the major factors that provide DOWNWARD pressure on fuel prices is efficient movement of oil; and pipelines have proven to be the cheapest, if not the safest.
But now, in an eerie sort of "energy deja vu", the langouring, trans-Canada Keystone pipeline has again come under the fire of environmenmtals - claiming it might leak toxic bitumen crude oil; thereby poisoning all the acquifers that lie below its 1700 mile path.
Sure. Just like all those dead baby reindeer that never did materialize.
Despite their lame claim that US acquifers would be irrevocably poisoned, is the fact that there are already over 2,000 plus pipelines that criss-cross North America, in a spider web-like maze - carrying natural gas, oil and ethylene to markets and refineries everywhere, thereby keeping US energy prices at their most efficient levels.
So what's the Obama administration's position on building Keystone? - a project that would create high paying, permanent energy jobs, PLUS reduce our dependency on OPEC?
You guessed it: Obama wants more "environmental studies."
But long before Keystone came along, the Obama administration was continuing its mindless ban on offshore drilling, in favor of offshore wind farms; this at a time when gasoline threatens to reach $5/gallon; an economic nightmare the American public might see develop during an Obama second term.
And why NOT five bucks?
Did not gas prices soar over 4 dollars a gallon in 2008? Yet, the dumbed-down US public said nothing - meekly accepting the standard explanation that it was because of the "greed of big oil."
And for how much longer do we Americans fall for that obligatory lie..."we can't drill our way out?" Or that..."It would take at least ten years before it affected gas prices."
Of course, most Americans are just too plain obtuse to discern that it's basic economics 101: supply and demand; as leftist democrats block all attempts to open up new US oil fields with the fervor of religious missionaries.
But why do Obama and the democrats hate oil (fossil fuels) so passionately? Why do they go to extremes to block domestic exploration, leasing and drilling? - and now fracking for natural gas - always saying.." they're in favor of it... but NOT UNTIL its proven to be absolutely safe."
But what in life is absolutely safe?
Should we ban flying because of airline crashes? Or cars? Or what about crossing a busy street? From that perspective, it could be argued that jaywalking is a felony; or let's ban mountain-climbing altogether, until it can be made absolutely SAFE.
But the real truth lies in what no liberal will ever admit:
To hamper all US energy production portends energy shortages in the US ; and less US energy means higher prices; with no healthy American economy. And no healthy economy means the death of capitalism: i.e. no wealth; and no wealth means no property. No property means no liberty. - portending government dependency. Which means bigger government; which means NO LIBERTY.
Got it? Is it not just a matter of time befrore we’re no longer a free market economy?- as creeping socialism takes hold, via the democrats' ability to strangle the economy through permanently high energy prices.
It's as simple as that.
Think about it: America has enough domestic energy reserverves to power itself for the next 500 years.
In 1972, the United States paid out $4 billion for oil imports, an amount equal to 1.2 percent of our defense budget (at that time).
In 2007, we paid $342 billion, and this year we'll pay over $600 billion; which is more than 130 percent of our current budget for national defense.
Over the same period, Saudi oil revenues have grown from $2.7 billion in 1972 to $240 billion in 2007, and this year are likely to exceed $400 billion; with much of that money being used to fund an international network of radical Wahhabi organizations; plus madrassas (schools) devoted to spreading terrorist ideology.
Meanwhile, our Iranian friends are using their share of the "take" to fund its nuclear weapons program, not to mention terrorist groups like Hezbollah (Lebanon) and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, our oil exports are bankrolling the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) - the cartel that dominates and manipulates the global oil market.
And now, with China and India industrializing, world demand for fuel is going up. And who is best positioned to exploit this new demand? - thereby prompting even more painful price hikes - going well beyond the 100 percent increase we've already endured over the past three years.
In short, we are financing an economic war against ourselves - paying the enemy more than we are paying our own military.
Even worse, this oil/blood money also empowers OPEC to lobby members of Congress, to keep this self-destructive plunge toward US energy suicide PERMANENTLY in place; despite the fact that recent discoveries place the US as having more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia, Russia and Iran COMBINED.
Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains and four western states, lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world; more than 2 TRILLION barrels; the Bakken reserve.
On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. But after the three and a half years that followed of higher oil prices, none had yet been extracted; until now, with the advent of horizontal drilling and fracking.
And even with this motherload of oil, we're still fighting over off-shore drilling?
Ironically (thankfully) these huge new discoveries in the lower 48 are the result of good ol' USA ingenuity; as American oil companies developed the amazing geological marvels of finding/extracting formerly rock-bound oil and gas; something that is curently causing the Obama administration to see RED.
The government is, increasingly, the enemy.
Imagine the millions of high-paying energy jobs: the wealth, the independence, and cutting off of the the OPEC jihad-snake at the head. There is no downside. We could easily extract that oil with minimum impact "to the trees" - safely and efficiently.
And why do you think the Left are brainwashing our children with all their mind-altering "green" propaganda? Going green, cleaning green, talking green, dressing green, shopping green.
Even the Muppets talk of how ..."it's not easy being green."
As early as the 1960's, Ayn Rand warned: (quote)..."Ecologists predict universal doom; and demand totalitarian power on the basis of arbitrary hypothesis, which sets back the possibility of such a science for centuries."
"Their ecology disgraces science. It is a political and publicity movement....They have no right to impose their 'wisdom' by force on the rest of mankind. Those who agreed with them would be saved; those who didn't would perish....No discovery, no concept, no fact can give any individual or group the power to enforce their conclusion on others."
(end quote)
The green movement wants to "eliminate industry and labor-saving devices" for our own good. And if the standard of living declines, that's a positive: we must preserve nature.
It's all about being made to feel guilty. To the Left, "Anyone who is against nature is against man, against life, against reason."
Yes indeed America; it's high time the country "went green." There is (at todays' oil prices) no less than 15 trillion dollars worth of oil wealth, buried below us - ready for the harvesting. A bounty enough to pay off our national debt; and restore prosperity as never before.
A new "energy morning" lies at hand for our country.
America, America. God shed his grace on thee.
