QUESTION: Is there a better ''story-teller'' out there than the beloved Joe Biden?
In blue-collar Youngstown Ohio, his latest whistle-stop, Mr. Biden spoke ever so reverently about his humble, middle class backround - pausing for the approvals of his captivated, heavily-partisan audience:
(QUOTE)..."There are signs of hope in the heartland. Jobs are starting to come back. And the ones that are coming back are the kind you can build a middle class life on. Manufacturing jobs."
However, Biden conveniently omits the REAL story: his supposed "working class" origins in Scranton, PA, are a political ploy: In fact, his father was successful sales professional for substantial companies, and he attended a very expensive private school.
But Biden, often portrayed as a doltish, hapless dullard, is capable of some of the most vicious, clever lies ever contrived on the campaign trail - using them to "connect" with whatever audience stands before him .
For example, Joe Biden has for years claimed that his first wife and daughter were killed by a "drunk driver" in 1972. However, closer examination of the records proves that the man driving the truck (that slammed into the Biden family car) was never charged with drunken driving.
There was no evidence of any drinking at the scene.
There was not even speeding. The trucks brakes checked out, as well. It was not the drivers fault.
NOTE: the leftstream media has allowed this "perception" (that Biden lost his wife to a drunk driver) to persist for years.
In fact, Delaware state investigators thought at the time, the mishap was caused by Biden's wife pulling out into the intersection, not having seen the truck bearing down upon her; a horrible accident with no blame.
Nevertheless, the "New York Times" reported the 2007 crowd at the University of Iowa grew silent as Biden gave his version of what happened that day:
(QUOTE)..."Let me tell you a little story, I got elected when I was 29, and I got elected November the 7th. And on Dec. 18 of that year, my wife and three kids were Christmas shopping for a Christmas tree. A tractor-trailer, a guy who allegedly - and I never pursued it - drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch, broadsided my family and killed my wife instantly, and killed my daughter instantly, and hospitalized my two sons, with what were thought to be at the time permanent, fundamental injuries."
Incredibly, Biden lied again in a similar story when addressing an audience at the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware, a few days after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
(QUOTE)..."It was an errant truck driver who stopped to drink instead of drive and hit my children and my wife and killed them," said Biden, according to a transcript archived on his Senate Web site.
Via this lie, Biden elevates himself to a tragic figure, who can relate to all Americans whose lives have been devastated by drunk driving; a vile and disgusting act!
Of course, for a politician looking for the sympathy vote, saying your wife was killed by a drunk is better than saying she made a fatal mistake behind the wheel. But like alcohol and gasoline don't mix, the truth and Joe Biden seem to be opposite extremes.
Later on, after a bitter public outcry from the dead truck driver's daughter, "fast-lyin'' Biden quickly abandoned the drunk driving claim when he was called out on it.
(QUOTE)..."All I said was what I heard at the time. What I heard from folks at the time is hed been drinking, explained Biden, sounding agitated. I dont want to talk about it...She must have pulled out...Its still painful to talk about 35 years later."
But can anyone imagine the pain of the innocent truck driver's family? - being falsely accused by a U.S. senator (and presidential candidate) of getting drunk and slamming into Biden's wife car, killing her and his daughter?
Is there anything lower on the scumbag scale than THIS?
Nonetheless, Biden's "embellishment problem" is reminiscent of another incident that undid Biden the LAST time he ran for president 20 years ago; when he was blindsided by plagiarism charges - having copied, almost verbatim, a 1975 speech by Neil Gordon Kinnick, a member of the British Parliament, known for his fiery oratory.
And then there was also the scene, taped by C-SPAN, in which Biden became irritated with a New Hampshire voter, who questioned him over his own "uneven" academic credentials.
Among Bidens claims, he said he was named the outstanding student in political science at the University of Delaware and was in the top half of his law school class at Syracuse University (both untrue) and won an international moot court competition, which WAS true.
Biden also gibed, "I'd be delighted to sit down and compare my IQ to yours." (NOTE: Biden "the gifted" graduated 75th out of a class of 86).
Seems that fast-lyin Biden, the plagairizer, has had honesty issues going all the way back to 1965, when he copied a Fordham Law Review article for a paper he wrote in his first year at Syracuse law school.
Mr. Biden insisted, however, that he had done nothing malevolent. He had simply "misunderstood the need to cite sources carefully."
To buttress his assertions of sincerity and openness, Mr. Biden released a 65-page file, obtained from the Syracuse University College of Law, that he said contained all the records of his years there. It disclosed relatively poor grades in college and law school, mixed evaluations from teachers, plus details of the plagiarism.
The file also included Mr. Bidens transcript from his days as an undergraduate at the University of Delaware. In his first three semesters, Biden's grades actually were all Cs or Ds, with three exceptions: two As in physical education courses, a B in a course on Great English Writers and an F in R.O.T.C.
Biden's record as seven-term senator from Delaware also was noteworthy: it would become a "family business."
As a sitting senator, if anyone ever wanted to "talk to" Joe Biden, you first had to literally pay off his son Hunter, whom Biden had secured a job as a lobbyist. (NOTE: It's the same game Harry Reid plays with his sons. You want to talk to Harry Reid, you start with a check for $250,000 to one of his sons).
Of course, Hunter Biden claims, "It's all legal" because I send someone from my office to my dad's dads office, he doesnt go personally." When Biden ran for VP, his son left his career as lobbyist and became a rookie stock broker for a major Wall Street firm - starting out at a cool 1.5 million a year.
Nice work if you can get it.
And let us not forget that Joe Biden, aka the Delaware senator from MBNA (now Bank of America), pushed for the bankruptcy bill that benefited the credit card companies; which eventually helped to trigger the 2008 financial crisis.
In 1997, MBNA had their employees collectively donate more than $200,000 to Biden's senate campaign fund. And by the most unlikely of co-incidences, the Delaware-based company also hired son Hunter to "work" as a consultant for MBNA from 2000 to 2005, at a middle class salary of 100K/yr.
And during that same time, in an even more remarkable coincidence, Senator Biden, then a senior member of the Judiciary committee, led a successful, high-profile battle in the Senate for a bankruptcy bill that ultimately benefitted banks and credit card companies.
Under intense media scrutiny, Biden had claimed MBNA had "no influence" on his bankruptcy reform bill. The "Consumer Foundation For America" fought bitterly for 4 years to oppose the bill. Even many Senate democrats, wary of public opinion, also opposed the reform.
But Mr. Biden, using those precious middle class values he had grown up with, aggressively undermined all opposition to the bill, which finally passed in 2005.
Mr. Biden, in his post legislative comments back then, re-iterated to the press...''There was nothing improper in what I did"...and also, "I never did MBNA any favors in the Senate."
So is it any wonder why Obama picked Biden to be his running mate? Do not the two play off each other? Biden being the so-called, "dumb white kid that makes the cool black kid look even more cool and smart" - just like in the TV sitcoms- the two most pathological, self-absorbed people anyone will encounter in American politics today.
Let's call it the Hollywood era of Washington. Truth and leadership matter not. Nowadays, Americans constantly vote on which candidate is the best-looking, or the ''funniest'', or the ones with good hair; and favor the one who can con the voters with the most heart-rendering of stories; or exorbitant promises (e.g. job creation for hard-working, middle-class families).
Lyin' Joe Biden has been called many things; but dumb he is not - having lived off the fat of the land in DC for a cool forty years.
