Do we have time for a flashback about an old-time "ethnic" joke? It went something like this:
Q. What's the shortest book in the library?
A. The Book of Italian War Heroes!
But today, the "shortest book in the library" is now known as..."Effective Republican Political Strategies", something that should be a wake-up call to overconfident Republicans everywhere, who are now crowing.... "we have the upper hand vs. the democrats on the government health care controversy!"
Sorry Republicans...you are the ones who remain exposed:
The Democrats have got a multitude of dirty tricks up their sleeves, and could care less about who opposes them- including their constituents back home.
EXHIBIT A: On Sept 28, 2008 a local St Louis TV station carried an ominous news report... "The Barack Obama campaign is asking Missouri law enforcement to target anyone who runs misleading TV ads during the presidential campaign."
"St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, and St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch have been threatening anyone posting false character 'attacks' against Mr. Obama. This includes negative information sonsored by 'soft money' organizations."
In effect, the Obama campaign succeeded in squelching the right to free speech, and "truth squads" of local prosecutors (and sheriffs) had created a paranoidal atmosphere, where Republicans -if they dared run ads critical of candidate Obama - could face prosecution.
EXHIBIT B: In 2008, Ohio State. Rep. John Boccieri outspent Republican challenger Kirk Schuring by $1.7 million, winning a close contest in Ohio's 16th congressional district - a staunchly Republican area, encompassing "conservative-minded" Canton, Ohio.
Boccieri's victory was largely due to the Democratic National Campaign (DNCC) Committee, spending nearly $2 million in television/radio buys - running misleading ads (mostly lies) about the Republican Schuring.
Boccieri is a carpet-bagging liberal hack, who was imported by Rahm Emanuel from the democratic stronghold of nearby Youngstown, Ohio. Nancy Pelosi and John Murtha sponsored his fund raisers, all taking place in Cleveland & New York City. This - plus ACORN - was responsible for his corrupt victory.
In the days heading up to the vote on cap and trade, thousands of local calls and e-mails (30 to 1 "against") did not sway Mr. Boccieri from voting "yes."
For two weeks following the vote, the DNCC ran a series of "man on the street" political commercials, "thanking" Boccieri for his vote that would..."help save our environment"...and "reduce our dependency on foreign oil."
EXHIBIT C: A Roanoke (Virginia) television station - WDBJ-TV - refused to air a recent National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) ad, attacking freshman US Representative Tom Perriello (D-VA), citing "factual inaccuracies."
The Republicans had purchased media time in Virginia (and around the country), to run ads against Democratic members of Congress, like Perriello, who had voted for the "Waxman-Markey clean energy economy" legislation.
But after receiving "information" from the Center for American Progress (left wingers), WBBJ pulled the Republican ad from rotation, claiming it "erroneously" states that the bill will “destroy jobs” and “cost middle-class families $1,800 a year.”
Given all that, picture Rahm Emanuel and Commander-in-sneak Obama in their DC "war room," placing pins on the map in all the "blue dog" districts- plotting where to send truth squads and DNCC campaign funds for the 2010 midterm elections- while overconfident Republican leaders do not yet have any idea of who'll oppose them!
Overconfidence is best described as "intellectual conceit," and Pollyann-ish Republicans continue acting like gullible fools, refusing to realize what they're up against - the most diabolical, win-at-all costs, political machine in US history:
Consider the phony, orchestrated "hold-out" of the blue dog democrats against the House version of the Obama-care bill:
For two weeks, gripping, multi-media press releases described the acrimonious struggle amongst the democrats, as if they were about to implode within: The blue dogs were... "listening to their constituents back home," and..."refusing to cave-in about tax hikes for small business employers" - etc.
And then, came the "shock": At the last minute - Friday, 9:35 PM - they "caved in."
A "compromise" was then announced; and so the House version of the bill will move forward for a vote in September.
Ergo- the Republicans are suckered again - score another one for Pelosi (who remains undefeated).
Indeed, it was all part of the Obama/Emanuel Machiavellian strategy to create a a climate of overconfidence, as naive Republicans are thinking..."Yeah man, we got 'em right where we want em!
Sorry boys - the Democrats have all of YOU right where they want you!
So now, unless Republicans act quickly, Democrats will pass this horrendous, freedom-ending government healthcare bill by September; and like the June cap 'n trade debacle, the Republicans will say..."but we gave 'em a great fight."
Fools!
Right now, (due to more dirty tricks) "all hands are aboard" for Obama-care; the AMA , "big Pharm", the AARP, and the main-stream media.
And Mr. Obama - supposedly facing his "Waterloo"- is about to pull off another Napoleonic, come from behind victory, by using Emanuel's master strategy:
1) During the August recess, blue dogs won't show up for any town hall meetings: they will send "assistants."
In September, a select number of them will then vote FOR the bill (to make it razor close) claiming... "Gee, we had no idea of the 'tenor' of public opposition", but..."we did it for the good of our constituents, because ...America is the only industrialized country without government health care."
2) Any blue dog voting the party line, facing defeat, has ALREADY been set up with a "fall-back" Obama job: lobbyist; Ambassador to Upper Volta; working as the head of a federal agency - etc.
Pelosi and Emanuel hold all the trump cards; and naive Republicans hold the Joker- failing to realize that blue dogs can be corrupted as easily as waving a 150K/year government career in front of them, with full benefits, and retire on a "peak salary" pension for the rest of one's life- so who's to worry about angry constituents?
3) Massive sums of DNCC money have already been delegated for these same blue dog Congressional district races in 2010 (ala Boccieri).
This assures no matter whom the Republicans pit versus these "vulnerable" blue dogs, the DNCC will simply run a torrent of negative campaign ads (mostly lies) against Republican challengers for the entire month of October 2010, and local liberal newspapers will endorse incumbent democrats - hence, preservation of the current status quo.
4) Also in fall of 2010, "truth squads," Media Matters, and Move On.org will "influence" local television stations to pull anti-democratic ads, citing that they are either false, or "misleading."
Again, the Republicans suffer from the Pollyanna syndrome: they are too naive to outfox these desperado democrats, who will employ desperate measures to win. And the passing of government health care is CRITICAL to saving the Obama presidency:
-it means Obama's second term.
-it means the Democrats can then pass immigration amnesty, and empower 20 million new "alien" democrats with THE VOTE.
-it means one-party rule for years to come; the Democrats keep power for perhaps the next half century.
Think about it, Republicans: The DNCC will never let a handful of blue dogs stand in their way, doing WHATEVER it takes to buy them off:
Billions in earmarks, taxpayer funded grants, etc. will flow to blue dog home districts, literally overwhelming them with political bribes for their "yes" votes - the same "blueprint" used for passing cap 'n trade.
Rest assured, huge sums of campaign party money have already been allocated to keep the blue dogs in office; plus all ACORN local honchos are already being apprised of what strategy to conjure to assure their victory.
And with 60 seats, a Democratic victory in the Senate on health care is all but a fait accompli.
The Republicans must cease this mindless assumption that the Dems are all but done for 2010 - that is EXACTLY what Obama, Pelosi and Emanuel want them to think!
Overconfidence is the hemlock that will kill the Republicans for yet another election cycle; and even if they miraculuosly regained control of both sides of Congress, Obama would only veto any reversal of the health care bill. Thus, September's vote is for all the marbles.
But the Repubs hold a few big "trump cards" of their own:
First, forget the townhall meetings; if the Dems won't show up, take the townhall to Washington DC (ala Martin Luther King 1963); hold a massive Republican tea party on August 28 (the anniversary of King's "I Had a Dream" speech) in front of the Washington Monument, where one million angry conservative voters send a message... "We shall overcome all democrats who vote against the interests of the American people!"
Next, attack John Conyers - a gift that's been dropped into the Republicans' laps from the political gods atop Mt Olympus:
For the entire month of August, run Republican-sponsored radio/TV spots with that infamous soundbite..."'Read the bill!?... What good is reading the bill if it's a thousand pages, and you don't have two days, and two lawyers to find out what it means?"
Next, recruit the elderly, who'll suffer the most under Obamacare:
Buy half-page newspaper ads (adjacent the obituaries) in local newspapers, warning that Obama-care will necessitate rationing for those over 65 - the furor created will be quickly heard all the way to Washington DC.
Next, hold organized marches in state capitals supporting the10th Amendment (states' rights vs. the federal government):
There is nothing in the Constitution about being forced to buy health insurance; thus, file a JOINT RESOLUTION requesting Congress..."cease and desist from enacting mandates that are beyond the scope of the enumerated powers granted to Congress by the Constitution of the United States."
Finally, run a national ad that reads... "What Obama won't tell you about government-run healthcare"...for details, call 1 800 777 9999 for recorded message. This ad brought to you by the Republican party, because we want America to hear the truth!"
So what's it gonna be Republicans? Overconfidence and defeat, or a pre-emptive strike to victory?
It's time for hardball. And this could be the last chance.
