Olympia Snowe?
Indeed, Snowe could be America's next big sellout -poised to be yet another infamous traitor to merit a reviled place in history.
Thus far, Obama's shrewdest move has been the cultivation of the amoeba-brained Snowe. Even before he took office in January, he had singled her out as a political "mark" that would one day come in handy.
Not surprisingly, Mr. Obama's flattery has paid off - in spades:
On Obama's anti-stimulus legislation, Snowe blithely provided one of three, decision-rendering Republican votes - clearing the way for the partisan, budget-busting $787 billion package.
Snowe's "independence" helps her popularity in Obama-friendly Maine - where, in the latest polls, 74% approve of her traitorous crossover.
So just how "easily-led" (stupid) is Olympia Snowe?
“The president's plan is budget neutral,” said Ms. Snowe, citing a CBO report on Obama's health care reform proposal, claiming..."it would save $49 billion over 10 years, and does reduce the deficit.”
Can this woman be serious?
Unbelievably, Snowe dismisses all socialist characterizations of Mr. Obama: (quote) ...“I almost sense the opposite,” she said.... “He’s been very realistic in his views on health care....His place on the ideological spectrum is more moderate than liberal on this question.”
Moderate? Does this brainwashed woman have the hots for Obama? A vain old bat, reveling in the personal attention from (ahem) THE PRESIDENT?
Whatever the case, Snowe is perfectly emblematic of what has caused the GOP’s failure; she lies about advocating limited government, fiscal responsibility,and a strong national defense, and simply legislates in line with the rest of the Democratic politburo.
Snowe - characterizing herself the social moderate - favors choice on abortion, gun control, and same-sex marriage; and voted against the Bush tax cuts in 2003. But by choosing to remain in the republican party, she capitalizes on the "best" of both political worlds.
Snowe is not unlike Justice Kennedy, the reigning kingmaker in the Supreme Court. She is heavily courted on all partisan Democrat bills - having concessions made according to her preferences.
Hence, she avoids the "Arnold Specter mistake," knowing that should she change affiliation, her enviable position goes away, and she becomes yet another Democrat, expected to vote lock-step - lest a more "idealogically pure" candidate come along.
And now that the Senate Democratic caucus is back to 59 votes (Snowe is the ONLY Republican open to the idea of health care reform) the White House is prepared to make the senior senator from Maine happy - very happy.
And that means but one thing - "trigger talk" is suddenly back in vogue.
Last April, Snowe comprised a trigger plan that supposedly lacks a government-run health insurance option (favored by Obama) - a sell-out compromise ensuring that a public option gets put in place in the future, while falsely giving the appearance of not being rammed down our throats.
Secretly, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Ms. Snowe have regularly traded legislative and political intelligence since last February.
And who knows? Emanuel may have himself come up with the trigger idea, realizing it might draw just enough hesitant Democratic moderates -- using "Snowe cover" to indicate bi-partisanship, while cleverly appeasing hardcore Senate liberals.
The public discussion of the Snowe “compromise” also serves as a trial balloon for the House, who's bill includes an immediate public option. The White House hopes that both Democratic factions would accept a “trigger” as part of a conference committee compromise, rather than outrightly rejecting the entire project.
Yes indeed; Olympia "Trigger' Snowe - the future of the Democratic Party!
This double-dealing woman is up for re-election in 2012; and she'll no doubt triumph because of some obvious concessions from Emanuel (and the Democratic National Committee), that they NOT run any viable opponent against her in exchange for her crossover vote for Obamacare.
What makes her truly despicable is how she uses the GOP to get elected in a marginally conservative state like Maine; but now, with all of America watching, she can be counted on to again vote democrat - selling out her party, and the bulk of Americans, who's lives -and free will to choose their doctors- will be forever compromised.
Judas Iscariot sold out Jesus to Jewish high priests in return for thirty pieces of silver.
And apparently, a guaranteed senate seat in Maine is enough for a sell-out like Olympia Snowe to earn her rightful place in time as one of America's greatest traitors.
The next tea party should commence immediately at the doorsteps of her Washington office- a stark reminder that her name shall forever be Mudd.
